“Everything is going to be all-right”

On September 29, 2025,

I was a passenger on a motorcycle when we were involved in a critical accident. There was a collision from the passenger side of a SUV and the front of the bike as the car turned left from the opposite side of the road. My partner fell off the bike while it totaled and the back of the bike catapulted me forward. We both coded on impact and were airlifted to Cooper University Hospital.

"You initially were brought to Cooper Hospital on 09/29/2025 after a motorcycle crash which resulted in several traumatic injuries. You had the dissection of the vertebral arteries on both sides resulting in a left cerebellar stroke, acute respiratory failure requiring intubation, lung bruising, rib fractures, air between the lungs and chest wall requiring chest tubes, a cut to your spleen which required removal, left kidney injury, right shoulder blade fracture, right forearm fractures in both bones, left upper arm fracture and blood flow issue requiring amputation at the mid humerus right sacral fractures, right hip fracture, and fractures to the transverse processes of vertebrae C7 through 13."

I spent several weeks in the ICU, completely intubated and unable to breathe on my own. In addition, my hospitalization was complicated by pneumonia and anemia. During that time, loved ones came to visit and while I couldn't see or understand everything happening around me, I was surrounded by people who refused to give up on me.

I remember the heaviness of my head and eyes when I would wake up and the feeling of the tubes down my throat helping me breathe. I would try to make sense of my body and understand what had happened but I was only conscious for short periods of time. However, those were the moments I understood that surviving the accident didn't mean my life would simply return to the way it was before. I had survived, but I was waking up to an entirely different life.
